Woven in Hotamış, a village on the Konya plain known for its bold kilims, this antique piece stacks three large hooked hexagon medallions down a cranberry-red field. Each medallion is filled with saffron, olive and lilac, and the field is framed by ivory bands of curled hook motifs and a wide multicoloured border. The colours have mellowed with age but stay rich, and at about 5 by 11 feet it is long enough for a living room or a large bedroom.
