Vintage Camel Hair Runner Rug, 11x3 ft, Handmade Wool Hallway Rug
Extra Long Rust Red/Brown, Hallway Runner Rug measuring 11'2'' x 2'7'' feet (340 cm x 80 cm) this Serab Runner Rug was originally woven by skilled tribal weavers who crafted artful, geometric rugs for domestic use in the relative isolation of the mountainous regions of Far South Western Turkey..
The best Serab carpets are extremely finely crafted, with distinctively fine knotting and delicate lines not usually seen in village rugs. They are also exceedingly rare. Due to the soft, muted colors and as the larger rug trade, which was expanding in the late 19th and early 20th-centuries, favored deeper, more robust colors fewer Serab pieces were made.
These Serab rugs are characteristically constructed in a Runner format as the homes at the time were much longer and distinctly narrower than those in the West. The design of these runners typically features long lozenge shaped fields enhanced with crenelated, diamond shaped medallions which run along the vertical axis. In the background latticework / crisscrossing patterns that interweave, creating honey comb or fence motifs are often seen.
Serap Rugs were, generally, woven from camel hair yarn which was, most often, home--spun from the weaver’s own camel hair and feature a remarkably soft and vibrant earth toned palette. These highly sought after weavings are not only visually engaging and unique, but also highly resistant to wear over time.
