Long Blue and Beige Hallway Runner Rug measuring 8 ft 10 in x 2 ft 7 in (268 cm x 88 cm Authentic Usak Rugs originate from the Usak region of Western Anatolia, Turkey. Originally, Usak rugs were woven in this region for both Domestic use and Commercial sale, with the Commercial rugs demonstrating more intricate design and finer quality materials and workmanship. This is a typical Commercial Usak Carpet rug measuring rich shades of Grey, Brown, Beige and Gold on a Pale Blue background woven 40 to 60 years ago. This design is based on the original 16th Century designs woven in Usak, Western Anatolia by Tribal Weavers for International Trade to the European Market during the 18th and early 19th Centuries for use in Cathedrals, Churches and the homes of the wealthy and powerful. More recent contemporary productions replicate these designs of the Ottoman Era and are characterised by subtle, stylised floral motifs, typically featuring soft apricot and golden saffron, on a single color, shaded, patina-like background. These rugs are typically woven with high quality sheep/lamb wool on a cotton base which allows for extremely tightly-woven, delicate designs to be achieved. Special pile shaving techniques are employed to produce the effect of lighter or darker appearance depending on orientation of the rug to the light.
