We are proud to be able to offer this magnificent, oversized Antique Ottoman Period Oushak Rug, originally handwoven in the early 1900s, This wonderful Rug is a genuine Oushak Palace Rug, Yhese rugs were primarily wovenin Usak, Turkey for Commercial Export to Europe rather than for Local, Domestic use. The soft colours and delicate, often stylized, central field floral design which is encased in a distinctive main border are key distinguishing characteristics of genuine Oushak Rugs. Whilst these designs and colours are being reproduced to this day, no modern Oushak can replicate the beauty of the original weavings. This Oushak has been lovingly snd skillfully restored to as close as possible to originalcondition
This is an impressive exampleof the rugs produced in the early 19 th Century with an eye-catching, soft pink background accentuated by overall floral motifs woven in shades of soft aqua blue, honey brown and white color .A distinctive and complimentary border featrues the distinctive aqua blue which is typical of Turkish Rugs produced at this time.
Measures : 13 ft 11 in x 9 ft 11 in (424 cm x 303 cm ).
Finely woven and intricately patterned, this rug is more influenced by the fine Oriental weavings intended for commercial trade than the more rudimentary utilitarian village weavings made for domestic use. The quality and condition of this rug is first class as the top grade sheep wool colored by natural/vegetable dyes used in its' construction and the skill of the weaver have that the longevity and beauty of the rug is preserved, even though it has most certainly "outlived" the shepherds, shearers, spinners, dyers, craftsmen and artists who all contributed to its' creation.
