This is a 100% Handmade, Vintage, Wool Knotted Pile Bergama Rug, made in the Bergama region of Izmir Province in North Western Anatolia. Turkey by Tribal Weavers up to 60 years ago. Bergama carpets can be divided two main categories – those such as Holbein design which were manufactured for export from as early as 15th Century, and those carpets which were produced in villages or by nomads for household use or local sale. These domestic carpets continue the tradition which stems from their Anatolian Yoruk heritage and typically feature a central medallion consisting of large, concentrically reduced rhomboid patterns with latch-hook ornaments. We source all our rugs from Towns in which they were originally made, selecting only those of the highest quality of original materials and workmanship.
