Measuring 4 ft 7 in x 3 ft 5 in (143 cms x 107 cms) this is a Handmade, Vintage Wool, Flat-Weave Soumak Kilim Rug, made in South Eastern Turkey by Tribal Weavers up to 60 years ago. It is woven in the "Rah Rah" or "Road" design with horizontal stripes featuring blue and off-white/yellow patterns intricately decorated onto the basic brown/rust red base flat weave. Soumak Rugs are also known as “warp-wrapped” weavings, highly appreciated for their finely woven, textured or “embroidered” structure and linear / geometric patterns and designs. Soumaks are not reversible and, often, one directional. Due to the threads used to create the "embroidery" which are typically left "loose " on the back of the weaving, generally, Soumak Rugs benefit from the use of a non-slip rug mat or pad to prevent movement on hard surfaces such as wood or tiles.
