Measuring 11 ft 1 in x 7 ft 7 in (340 cm x 25 cm) this is a softly colored, Flat-weave Kilim rug in shades of coral, mint green, ochre, beige and brown. This large rug was woven in the Caucausian Mountains region around 40 years ago. Typically, these Moldovan rugs were not considered as utilitarian but, rather, intended for use as as wall and floor decorations for special occasions such as weddings and funerals and a handwoven rug was considered to be a crucial part of a young woman's dowry. Unfortunately, the tradition of passing down the weaving skills and designs from generation to generation is slowly fading in the 21st Century and the Moldovan rugs that do now make their way to Turkey are eagerly sought after by Western rug collectors.
