Handmade, Vintage, Wool, Flat-Weave Soumak Kilim Rug, made in Far Eastern Turkey by Tribal Weavers up to 60 years ago. and measuring 3 ft 3 in x 1 ft 7 in (101 cm x 53 cm). This Turkish Kilim Runner Rug has an attractive Rah Rah / repeated Geometric Horizontal Stripe pattern in shades of Brown, Rust Red, Beige and Blue. Oriental Soumak Rugs are also known as “warp-wrapped” weavings, in which different colored weft threads are woven over and under the warp threads, adding strength and an embroidery-like pattern to the plain, single color, base kilim. Soumak Kilim Rugs are highly appreciated for their finely woven, textured or “embroidered” structure and linear / geometric patterns and designs. Soumaks are not reversible and, often, one directional. As the supplementary weft threads are left unclipped on the reverse side, it is recommended to use a non-slip rug pad / underlay to prevent movement, especially in high traffic areas or on highly polished, smooth surfaces.
