Persis — Vintage Kayseri Wool Large Area Rug

Kayseri is a well-known center for Turkish carpet weaving with a long history. The city's weavers are renowned for their use of high-quality wool and their ability to create intricate designs. The characteristics listed above are strongly associated with rugs produced in this region. The prominent use of a vibrant, clear blue in the central medallion, combined with reds and creams/ivory, is typical of Kayseri rugs. The specific shade of blue is often associated with this region. The large, centrally placed medallion with its intricate floral and curvilinear designs is a hallmark of Kayseri rugs. The detailed work within the medallion and its surrounding elements is indicative of the artistry of the region.  The complex border system, featuring repeating floral motifs and geometric patterns, is another common feature of Kayseri rugs. The borders often frame the central medallion beautifully. The combination of curvilinear designs (seen in the medallion) and more geometric patterns (in the borders) is a characteristic blend found in Kayseri weavings. While difficult to ascertain definitively from a photo, Kayseri rugs are known for their relatively fine weave, allowing for detailed patterns.
