Measuring 10 ft 9 in x 5 ft 6 in (327.6 cms x 167.6 cms) this is a very typical example of functional, mid 20th Century Turkish Village Tribal weaving. This Vintage Flat-Weave Cicim Kilim Wool Rug was Handmade in the region of Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey by Tribal / Village Weavers up to 60 years ago. The plain brown/black base Kilim is woven of locally sourced, undyed Goat Hair and is decorated by Cicim (embroidered) enhancement in which a third, different colored, Sheep Wool yarn is used to embroider traditional designs and motifs to create a textured appearance and effect. "Goat Hair" was traditionally used not only to utilize available resources but, also, to produce a durable and resilient carpet and any kilim made of "Goat Hair" will be quite coarse to the touch compared to sheep wool products. But if you are seeking a truly authentic tribal weaving which will withstand the trials of heavy use and possible spillages/stains, this Kilim woud suit your needs. Being finer weavings than some sheep wool kilims, "Goat Hair" kilims may benefit from the use of a non-slip underlay or rug pad to prevent movement on smooth surfaces.
