Traditional Design rug handwoven in Kirsehir in the Mucur region of Central Anatolia, Turkey by Tribal Weavers up to 100 years ago. In Mucur weavers benefit from the availability of quality wool grown by local shepherds who inhabit the mountainous regions as well as the sunny, temperate climate which is perfect for wool dying and rug drying and “curing” Kirsehir rugs such as this are typically woven of shiny, high quality sheep wool, densely piled and quite shiny. Design elements usually include bold, large geometric lozenges / medallions on a plain central field which are encased by more intricate, sometimes repeated, borders.
