The "Tree of Life" which features on the central panel of this rug, is a symbol of the connection between the present and after life / the connection between Heaven and Earth which is prominent in many cultures and religions. In this Turkish Prayer Mat sized rug, produced over 100 years ago in the Adana region of South Western Turkey, the Central Prayer niche, woven in deepcherry / crimson red, is the background for a stylized "Tree of Life" woven in lovely soft green. The quarter panels, also in soft green, are enased in a wide, pale yellow border which features stylized floral motifs. This rug was woven using high quality, locally sourced sheep wool coloured by vegetable dyes also derived from locally grown plants.
