Handmade Oushak (Usak) rug in rich shades of rich rust red, mint green, beige, cream and gold based on original 16th Century designs and woven in Usak, Western Anatolia by Tribal Weavers up to 40 to 60 years ago. More recent productions replicate the designs of the Ottoman Era and are characterised by subtle, stylised floral motifs on a single color, shaded, patina-like background. These rugs are typically woven with high quality sheep/lamb wool on a cotton base which allows for extremely tightly-woven, delicate designs to be achieved. Special pile shaving techniques are employed to produce the effect of lighter or darker appearance depending on orientation of the rug to the light.
