This is an outstanding example of an Antique Caucasian Star rug, originally woven in the early 1940s by local weavers in the Southern Caucasian mountain region which is now known as Azerbijan.
Using locally sourced sheep wool colored with vegetable dyes, this is one of the more highly sought after and collectable types of Star Vintage Rug as it features the classic Kazak Star design of a plain, undecorated central field in indigo pink with a distinctive floral / rosette border. There is a noticeable variation in colours
This rug has proportions typical of Kazak Star weavings, being rectangular in shape and measuring 5 ft 6 in x 4 ft 10 in (125 cm x 176 cm)
