Woven in the Sivas region of Central Anatolia, Turkey, circa 1950s, this is a brown, flat-weave Cicim Kilim in which the plain background has been enhanced by embroidery in shades of red, orange, yellow and white, giving an appealing textured appearance to the surface. Cicim Kilims are often referred to as "embroidered" weavings as the design motifs are applied "in addition to" the warp and weft (supplementary weft technique) adding a textured effect to the plain background. This rug features traditional motif design enhancement on a striped, flatweave background.
