Authenticity & Origin

Finely woven and Intricately adorned by Cicim (embroidered design) enhancement, this is a quite unique Flatweave Turkish Kilim Rug measuring 9' 8"x 6' 1" (295 cms x 185 cms). This Brown and White striped rug was handwoven in South Eastern Turkey around 60 years ago. It is constructed of natural, untreated/undyed goat hair and is a fine example of nomadic use of available resources to produce textiles for everyday use. A feature of this kilim is the use of Cicim and Soumak enhancement. Cicim (embroidered) and Soumak (also known as “warp-wrapped” weavings), Rugs are highly appreciated for their finely woven, textured or “embroidered” structure and linear / geometric patterns and designs. Cicims and Soumaks are not reversible and, often, one directional. Due to the structure of the weaving, these rugs may benefit from the use of a rug pad or non-slip underlay to prevent movement on smooth surfaces or in high traffic areas
