Description
Unique tribal design Turkish Kars rug woven in North Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, using 100% natural sheep wool colored by vegetable dyes. Kars has a rich history in rug weaving with both Turkish and Armenian influence in the typical colors (rich and dark) and designs (;large, bold geometric patterns) woven from locally sourced sheep wool. This particular Kars rug, in varying shades of brown, green and beige, features a 20th Century incorporation / interpretation of strong traditional village design motifs and skilled weaving techniques. Another significant attribute of this rug is the subtle "abrash" (natural shading/fading) of the original colors which is only possible with high quality, naturally dyed yarn as the natural dyes soften and mellow with time and use.
